Every year children are born throughout the world using artificial insemination. In practical terms, this means many families are completed each year with the help of men like you.
Men between the ages of 18 and 30 are eligible sperm donors. Should you wish to donate your sperm, please download, and complete, our Sperm Donor Questionnaire (pdf). You can fill the questionnaire in on your computer, and e-mail it to Cryobank. Alternatively, you can print it out, and fax it to +27 (0)11 484 1130. Sperm donors need to include a full colour photograph of themselves via e-mail or photographic print.
If you are accepted as a potential candidate, you will need to provide a signed copy of your Sperm Donor Questionnaire for Cryobank's records. Donors receive generous compensation to cover their traveling expenses.
sperm donor procedure
Once Cryobank verifies your paperwork, you will be contacted to discuss the process, monetary compensation, and your first appointment. All tests and medical checks are for Cryobank's account, and your donation is strictly anonymous. Sperm specimens are obtained through masturbation on site at Cryobank, and the process goes as follows:
- The first sample is put through preliminary screening.
- If the sperm is viable, another appointment is set up to obtain blood specimens for testing.
- Once the blood tests are clear, Cryobank will send you for a full medical with General Practitioner, Dr Isabel Thompson, at Parklane Clinic.
- With her approval, you commence your donor ship.
- For viable specimens, you need to abstain from ejaculation for at least three to seven days before each appointment.
- You will be asked to supply Cryobank with 30 specimens with one week intervals, allowing for necessary study, holiday and deadline breaks.
- After every 10 specimens, Cryobank obtains another blood specimen for follow-up HIV and Hepatitus tests.
